Coronavirus has prompted Sydney couples to get creative about tying the knot — with some using video conferencing and mobile celebrants to make their big day happen. Celebrant Jeff Hindmarsh is offering “drive thru” weddings were couples can get married in their car and drive off into the sunset after a quick ceremony. “The idea was born from looking at what we can do to get people married at the moment. Some people told me about how this can happen in Vegas,” he said. “The location can be anywhere you like and the couple stays in the car. They wind down the windows, we conduct the ceremony where they can say their own vows, then I guide them with putting their rings on and they can share a kiss.” Mr Hindmarsh said two witnesses can stay inside the car if they are part of the household or stand outside during the ceremony. Two weeks after Vinh Luong and Aron Poole bought 50 cases of beer and 20 cases of wine for their wedding reception the world went into lockdown. On Saturday the couple went ahead with their wedding in the Glen Alpine back garden with the celebrant and guests joining them on Zoom.
