On January 26, 1966, siblings Jane, Arnna and Grant Beaumont, aged nine, seven and four respectively, left their family home and took a five-minute bus ride to Glenelg Beach near Adelaide, South Australia. They left home at 10am, with instructions to return at noon. When they had not returned home by 3pm, their parents became concerned, and headed to the beach in search of them. After failing to locate the children, the parents reported them missing to police. A large investigation followed, where police and community members scoured the vicinity in search of them. Eyewitnesses reported to have seen the children at the beach that day in the company of a tall, blond man aged in his thirties. Despite extensive searches, no trace of the man or children were ever found. The case of the missing Beaumont children remains one of Australia's most infamous cold cases, and is often regarded as a symbol of Australia’s end of innocence.
