‘INXS’ were an Australian rock band formed in 1977 in Sydney. ‘INXS’ began under the name ‘The Farriss Brothers’, consisting of Michael Hutchence, Andrew Farriss, Garry Gary Beers, Tim Farriss, Kirk Pengilly, and Jon Farriss. The band changed their name to ‘INXS’ prior to the release of their self-titled debut album in 1980, which featured their first hit single ‘Just Keep Walking’. Its follow-up, 1981's ‘Underneath the Colours’, became a hit album in Australia, reaching No 15 on the Australian album charts. Their 1983 release ‘Shabooh Shoobah’ became the first ‘INXS’ album released worldwide, and its impact was very strong with ‘The One Thing’ becoming a worldwide smash hit. In the mid-1980s, ‘INXS’ reached their commercial peak with ‘Kick’, released in October 1987, which peaked at No. 1 in Australia, No. 3 on the US Billboard 200, No. 9 in UK. The group did not fare as well with its consequent albums, but remained a popular live act, drawing large crowds to their shows. In 1997, lead singer Michael Hutchence was found dead in his Sydney Ritz-Carlton hotel room, and ‘INXS’ did not perform publicly for a year following his death. The year 2000 saw Jon Stevens begin his association with ‘INXS’, and after sporadic live shows as guest vocalist, followed by world tours, Jon Stevens was officially announced as INXS's ‘seventh member’ in October 2002. In 2005 J.D. Fortune was announced as the new lead singer of ‘INXS’, and the band released the album 'Switch'. ‘INXS’ has won six Australian Recording Industry Association awards including three for 'Best Group' in 1987, 1989 and 1992, and was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2001. To date ‘INXS’ have sold over 30 million records. On November 11, 2012, during their performance as support act to Matchbox Twenty at Perth Arena, Australia, ‘INXS’ announced that the performance would be their last.
